Sowing and harvesting schedule :
Soil maintenance: kohlrabi prefers very fertile soil that is kept moist otherwise it becomes fibrous. No acidic soil.
Exposure: sunny or slightly shaded.
Sowing: 1 cm deep in the nursery or in the field, 50 cm between plants and between rows.
Emergence: 8 days in soil at 20°C.
Watering: regular.
Harvest: when the root reaches a minimum weight of 200 g
Conservation : can be kept in a silo or in a cellar during the winter.
Origin: it is native of the Mediterranean basin. The Romans called it the "Pompei cabbage". It is somewhat neglected nowadays for having been a war food.
