Marina di Chioggia squash
Description
The Marina di Chioggia squash produces fruits weighing 8 kg, with an embroidered to warty rind, grey turning to dark green.
Its orange and sweet flesh is very tasty.
Type maxima, runner.
The origin of the culture of this variety (or cultivar) is Italy. Comparable to the Giraumon squash, but embroidered.
Fruit weight: 8-10 kg.
Good shelf life: 4 to 8 months.
Growing guide
Before sowing, loosen the soil on 30 cm.
Sunny exposure and sheltered from the wind.
Sowing: at 3,5 cm depth in stacks of 2 to 3 seeds.
Thin out to leave only one plant every 90 cm and 130 cm between rows.
Sowing and harvesting dates:
- Sowing: March-April (clod nursery), May-July (open field) champ).
- Harvest: September to November,
Crop cycle: 90-145 days.
Emergence: in 6 to 8 days in soil at 14°C.
Cultivation practice
The squash belongs to the cucurbitaceae family.
Sow, either in clods (5x5 cm), or in a medium-heavy and very fumsow in 3-seed stacks at a depth of 2 cm.
Water copiously.
To thin out by preserving only one foot, then to hoe and weed.
From sowing to obtaining the plant, it takes 3 to 4 weeks.
The types moschata are very vigorous and runners.
They support very well the big heats.
Orange flesh, rich in carbohydrates.
They produce fruits with a short shelf life.
The potimarron types, of Asian origin, are running varieties, with fruits very rich in vitamins and trace elements.
They have a long shelf life.
