RHUBARBE Victoria
Description
The rhubarb Victoria is a perennial plant with broad red fleshy ribs of very good gustatory quality.
Do not eat the leaves which can be toxic.
Guide of culture
Culture: fresh, permeable, deep ground and rich in humus. You will harvest the ribs 2 years after sowing.
Sowing: in pot, then transplant at the stage 5 to 6 leaves, in full ground with 80 cm of spacing between the plants and the rows.
Emergence: 10 to 30 days.
Sowing and harvesting dates:
- Sowing: from March to May in pots.
- Harvest: 2 years after sowing.
Cultural practice
Rhubarb belongs to the polygonaceae family.
Native of the north of Asia, formerly known in China as medicinal plant, it was introduced in Europe by Marco Polo among the medicinal and ornamental plants.
It was only cultivated in the vegetable garden in the XVlllth century.
Plant with rhizome, perennial with strong development, and with very large leaves.
The rhubarb likes fresh soils, half-shade and does not resist in dry areas.
